Five Dead in Miami Cargo Plane Crash at Airport

On Sunday, shortly before 2pm local time, an Amazon cargo aircraft operated by 21 Air, identified as 21 Air Flight 7598, crashed at Miami International Airport after overrunning the runway. The Boeing 767-300 freighter was landing after a flight from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it failed to stop and struck several vehicles, resulting in a fire.

Five people were confirmed dead, and five others were injured, with three in critical condition. The aircraft, a 32-year-old Boeing 767-33A(ER)(BDSF) with registration N1997A, had previously been a passenger aircraft before conversion to a freighter.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue deployed over 60 units and approximately 200 personnel to manage the situation, battling flames and addressing a fuel leak. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are examining various factors, including the aircraft's speed and weather conditions, which included thunderstorms and gusting winds at the time of the accident.
