UNODC Partners with Nigeria Police to Combat Cybercrime

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has strengthened the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in the fight against cybercrime by establishing the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF NCCC). This initiative focuses on enhancing the capacity of police officers to combat cybercrime effectively.

A workshop held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, trained frontline police officers on cybercrime fundamentals, digital evidence, and the operational methods of cybercriminals. Cheikh Tour, representing UNODC in Nigeria, emphasized the importance of this training in building resilient institutions capable of confronting evolving cyber threats.

The training aims to ensure that officers are equipped to handle cyber-related cases with precision and legal effectiveness. AIG Uch Henri noted that the NPF NCCC stands at the forefront of defending Nigeria's digital territory and safeguarding citizens and businesses.

The workshop also encouraged collaboration among various agencies and highlighted the need for a victim-centered response to cybercrime.
