ASUU Threatens Disruption Over Unpaid Entitlements in North

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a warning of potential disruptions to academic activities in Kano, Kaduna, and Jigawa states due to the failure of state governments to fulfill their financial obligations. During a press briefing held in Kano, the zonal coordinator, Comrade Abdulrazaq Ibrahim, expressed the union's frustration over the prolonged delays in implementing agreements signed eight years ago.

These agreements include provisions for the payment of salary arrears and pension remittances. ASUU noted that universities in Bauchi, Ekiti, Osun, Benue, and Sokoto states have already complied with the agreements, highlighting the non-compliance of the Kano zone.

The union cautioned against the repercussions of continued delays, which could undermine industrial harmony and disrupt the academic calendar. ASUU also raised concerns about worsening insecurity in Nigeria, urging parents, students, and civil society to pressure state governments to honor their commitments to avoid jeopardizing the future of Nigerian youth.
