ASUU Threatens Strike Over Unpaid Allowances in 11 Varsities

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a warning of an impending indefinite strike affecting 11 state-owned universities across Edo, Delta, Ondo, Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe states. This threat arises from the failure of these state governments to implement a 2025 federal agreement signed in July.

Prof. Mondai Igbafen, the Benin zonal coordinator, stated that the lack of action over the past six months has severely impacted academic activities at institutions including Ambrose Alli University, Adekunle Ajasin University, and others.

Comrade Dani Mamman, the Yola zonal coordinator, echoed these concerns, highlighting that the failure to implement the agreement has created tension and unfair conditions for lecturers. ASUU demands that state governors urgently implement the agreement and settle outstanding arrears to avert disruptions in academic activities.
