EFCC Attempts to Seize Malami's Abuja Residence

On Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to take over the Abuja residence of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, located in Maitama. The operation, reportedly led by Folarin Sunday Dare, involved five buses and heavily armed personnel who barricaded the road to Malami's residence.

Shehu Koko, a member of Malami's household, confirmed in an interview that the EFCC operatives did not present a valid court order for the action. Malami chose to remain quiet to avoid causing a scene.

The EFCC had received approval to proceed with the operation, despite Malami's state of mind and efforts to access the property. This residence is part of 57 properties linked to alleged illicit activities involving Malami and his two sons, which a Federal High Court in Abuja granted an interim forfeiture order for in January.

Malami has since challenged this order, filing an application against the interim forfeiture of assets linked to a money laundering case involving N8,713,923,759.49.
