EFCC Seeks Permanent Forfeiture of Malami's 57 Properties

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to permanently forfeit 57 properties allegedly linked to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN. The motion, led by lawyer Jibrin Okutepa, argues that the properties are suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.

The EFCC's application, filed under Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006, seeks to finalize the interim forfeiture order issued earlier. The court, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, was informed that the EFCC had conducted extensive investigations, receiving multiple petitions against Malami, which led to inquiries involving various financial institutions and government agencies.

The investigation revealed that Malami received a total of N89,664,000.00 in salary from 2015 to 2023, alongside allowances totaling N253,608,500.00 for official trips, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the properties in question.
