EFCC Seizes Abubakar Malami's Abuja Residence

On Tuesday, operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) took possession of the Abuja residence of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. The EFCC blocked access to the property located on Koranakh Close off Amazon Street in Maitama, citing a valid court order.

This action is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial improprieties linked to Malami and his two sons, Abdulaziz Malami and Abiru Rahman Malami. In January, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties believed to be connected to unlawful activities involving Malami and his sons.

The court directed the EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture order in national newspapers, allowing interested parties to appear in court within 14 days to contest the forfeiture. Malami has since filed an application challenging this interim forfeiture.

The EFCC's actions have raised concerns regarding their authority to enforce such orders independently, with a hearing scheduled for April 20.
