U.S. Visa Renewal Policy Allows Interview Waivers for Some

The U.S. Department of State has introduced new conditions that enable certain nonimmigrant visa applicants to renew their visas without attending an in-person interview, effective October 1, 2025.

While most applicants still need to appear in person at a U.S. embassy or consulate, specific groups may qualify for an interview waiver. This includes holders of B-1, B-2, or combined B-1/B-2 visas, as well as H-2A visa holders, provided their previous visa expired no more than 12 months prior to the new application.

The visa must have been issued for its full validity period, and applicants must be at least 18 years old. Additionally, holders of certain diplomatic and official-type visas, including categories A-1, A-2, C-3, G-1 through G-4, NATO-1 through NATO-6, and TECRO E-1, are also exempt from the interview requirement.

Applicants must submit their renewal in their country of nationality or residence and have a clean visa history.
