Trump Commemorates 25th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

On September 11, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, stating that the United States faces “very real threats right now.” The ceremony took place on the Ellipse outside the White House, organized by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and featured a 21-foot steel beam from the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

Approximately 150 first responders attended the event. Trump posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Welles Remy Crowther, known as the “Man in the Red Bandana,” who saved 18 people during the attacks.

His mother, Alison Crowther, and sister, Paige Crowther Charbonneau, accepted the honor. Trump also announced that a new U.S.

Coast Guard cutter would be named after Jeffrey Palazzo, a firefighter who responded to the attacks. He emphasized the need to prevent future attacks, stating, “Nobody will ever even think of such a thing being able to happen again.” The formal commemorations are set for September 11, 2026, at the three attack sites.
