NYC Commemorates 25th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

On September 11, 2026, New York City marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a ceremony at the World Trade Centre site. Four former US presidents (George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and JD Vance) attended the memorial, while Donald Trump chose to observe the anniversary at the Pentagon.

The ceremony featured bereaved family members reading the names of the 2,977 victims, accompanied by a bell ringing to signify key moments from the attacks. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the city's first Muslim mayor, attended despite a campaign led by the New York Post and former mayor Rudy Giuliani urging him to stay away, which gathered over 100,000 signatures.

Mamdani had previously released documents regarding air quality in lower Manhattan post-attacks, stating that many became ill due to misinformation from leaders. Security was heightened across lower Manhattan for the event, reflecting the ongoing impact of the attacks.
