U.S. Report on Nigeria Sparks Call for Cooperation

Alhaji Moham Idris, Nigeria's Minister of Information, stated that the U.S. House Committee's report on Christian persecution in Nigeria serves as a catalyst for broader cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

The Federal Government of Nigeria noted the report's recommendations for engagement with the U.S. Congress and the White House, emphasizing the importance of addressing security and development issues in Nigeria.

Idris highlighted that Nigeria values its long-standing strategic partnership with the U.S., which shares common interests in promoting security and economic development in the region. He acknowledged the serious security challenges Nigeria faces, including terrorism, banditry, and communal conflict, and expressed deep concern over the loss of lives and property due to criminal acts.

The Nigerian government remains committed to upholding constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and ensuring equal protection under the law. Efforts to improve military coordination and humanitarian responses for internally displaced persons were also noted.
