Trump and Iran Negotiate Potential Hormuz Agreement

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his administration engaged in “very good discussions” with Iran during negotiations on Tuesday, raising hopes for a resolution to the ongoing conflict affecting the Strait of Hormuz.

Oil prices fell, and Asian stocks rose amid optimism for an agreement that could restore shipping through the strait. Trump warned of military action if an agreement is not reached, while reports indicated that Washington and Tehran are nearing an interim deal with Oman’s support, potentially to be announced on Wednesday.

However, Iranian state media reported that any agreement would be delayed as long as the U.S. continues to threaten Iran. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described ongoing constructive discussions with Oman focused on safe shipping routes.

Iran has halted traffic through the strait, and the U.S. maintains a blockade on Iran-linked shipping. Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Trump discussed efforts to bridge differences between Washington and Tehran during a phone call on Tuesday.
