US Lawmaker Commends Nigeria's State Police Bill Passage

During a plenary session on Thursday, Nigeria's House of Representatives passed the State Police Bill, which aims to enable the establishment of state police forces across the country's 36 states alongside the federal police. This bill requires ratification by at least 24 state assemblies and presidential assent to take effect.

A US lawmaker welcomed this development, describing it as a crucial step towards addressing insecurity and protecting citizens, especially Christians who have faced persecution in Nigeria. The lawmaker expressed gratitude to Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu for supporting the legislation and urged further investigations into the alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

The statement emphasized the need for state governments to enhance their capacity to protect citizens and improve security outcomes. While progress has been made in the reform process, the lawmaker noted that the work is not yet complete.
