US Lawmaker Opposes Lifting Nigeria's CPC Status

United States Congressman Riley Moore, a Republican representing West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, stated on Tuesday that the US Department of State should not lift Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) due to persistent violence against Christians in the Middle Belt. His comments came in response to a recent attack in Plateau State, where gunmen killed at least 24 individuals in Mangu Local Government Area.

Moore expressed that despite some progress in northern Nigeria, the situation in the Middle Belt remains dire, with Christians facing ongoing violence. He referenced the Biden Administration's previous decision to remove Nigeria's CPC designation, which he claims led to increased violence against Christians.

Following the attack, victims were given a mass burial, and injured individuals were receiving medical treatment. Women from the affected community protested peacefully, demanding urgent government intervention to safeguard their lives and communities.
