U.S. Lobby Firm Revives Tinubu's Drug Case Allegations

The lobbying firm Von Batten Montagu York has brought renewed attention to a civil forfeiture case involving Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, which dates back to the late 1980s and early 1990s. The firm has circulated a 60-page document to U.S. officials, including members of Congress, detailing allegations of Tinubu's involvement in heroin trafficking.

The documents include historical U.S. court records and a civil forfeiture action initiated by the U.S. Department of Justice in 1993, which sought to seize funds believed to be connected to drug trafficking.

The case was resolved with a civil settlement of $460,000, but no criminal charges were filed against Tinubu. The firm claims that the investigation identified Adegboyega Mueez Akand as a leader of the trafficking organization linked to Tinubu.

The ongoing Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by journalist Aaron Greenspan seeks additional records related to this investigation.
