US Missionary Criticizes Nigeria Over Christian Attacks

Alex Barbir, a US missionary and leader of the group Build Zion based in Florida, publicly criticized the Nigerian government for its inaction following a deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State. In a video, Barbir condemned President Bola Tinubu for failing to act after gunmen, reportedly dressed in military uniforms, attacked Anguwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, killing at least 12 people and injuring several others.

The attack occurred around 8 PM on a Sunday, with witnesses describing it as sudden and chaotic. Barbir referenced Islamic texts, including Surah 9:29 and certain hadiths, to highlight the violence against Christians, stating, "When will [the government] stop?

When will [they] hear the cries of Nigerian Christians?" His remarks received mixed reactions online, with some Nigerian users accusing him of promoting hate speech. Following the attack, authorities imposed a 48-hour curfew in Plateau State to contain rising tensions.
