Trump Signs Orders to Curb Birthright Citizenship

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller stated that these new measures effectively ban birth tourism.

The directives also seek to restrict automatic citizenship for children born in the United States to foreign government employees and individuals. Additionally, if Congress approves proposed legislation, this could impact citizenship for individuals born in US territories.

This action follows a Supreme Court ruling on June 30 that overturned an earlier executive order by Trump, which aimed to deny citizenship to children born in the US to parents who were unlawfully or temporarily present. Trump criticized the court's decision, claiming it allowed exploitation of birthright citizenship.

Civil rights organizations, including the ACLU, have raised concerns about the legality of the new measures, suggesting they may face legal challenges.
