US Revokes over 6,000 Student Visas for Overstays, Others

The Trump administration has revoked over 6,000 student visas for overstays and breaking the law, with a small minority allegedly supporting terrorism, according to a State Department official. This move is part of the administration's broader immigration crackdown, which includes tightening social media vetting and expanding screening directives.

The State Department issued orders for US diplomats abroad to be vigilant in screening applicants who may have hostile intentions towards the United States. The majority of the revoked visas were due to offenses such as driving under the influence, drug offenses, and burglary.

The State Department's Foreign Affairs Manual identifies ineligibility for visas on grounds of engaging in terrorist activity or having certain links to terrorist groups. President Trump has clashed with US universities over accusations of antisemitism and support for Palestinian rights, leading to threats of funding freezes and visa revocations.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that hundreds, possibly thousands, of people, including students, have had their visas revoked for getting involved in activities that go against US foreign policy.
