U.S. Student Visa Interview Guidelines Released

The U.S. Department of State has provided a comprehensive guide for foreign nationals seeking student visas, specifically the F visa for academic institutions and the M visa for vocational schools.

Applicants must possess a valid passport, completed Form DS-160, proof of application fee payment, and Form I-20 from their SEVP-approved school. A non-refundable application fee of $185 is required.

During the visa interview, consular officers may request additional documents such as academic transcripts, standardized test scores, and proof of funding. Digital fingerprint scans are collected during the appointment.

A visa does not guarantee entry into the U.S., as Customs and Border Protection officers have the final authority at ports of entry. F visa holders must leave the U.S. within 60 days after their program ends.

New student visas can be issued up to 365 days before the course start date, but entry is limited to 30 days prior to classes. The Department of State advises early application due to varying wait times.
