Seven Reasons Your U.S. Visa Application May Be Denied

The U.S. Department of State has identified seven common reasons that may lead to the denial of visa applications.

These reasons include: 1) Insufficient information or supporting documents, which can result in refusal if the consular officer lacks enough information to determine eligibility; 2) Failure to qualify for the specific visa category, as each category has distinct eligibility requirements; 3) Inability to establish eligibility, where applicants must provide sufficient evidence for the purpose of their trip; 4) Criminal history, as past or current criminal activities can render applicants ineligible; 5) Drug-related offenses, which are grounds for denial under U.S. immigration law; 6) Other grounds of inadmissibility, including security and legal concerns; and 7) Failure to qualify for a waiver, which is not guaranteed. The Department advises applicants to carefully review the reasons for denial and explore the possibility of applying for a waiver or other remedies.
