U.S. Embassy Warns of Terror Threat in Nigeria

On a late Monday, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria issued a security notice alerting American citizens to a potential terrorist threat aimed at U.S. facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools in Nigeria.

The embassy's alert was designed to inform U.S. citizens residing in or visiting Nigeria about the risks and to recommend additional precautions. It emphasized the importance of exercising increased vigilance when traveling to U.S. diplomatic missions and affiliated institutions, particularly in Abuja and Lagos.

The embassy advised American nationals to vary their travel times and routes to avoid predictable patterns, ensure their mobile phones are charged in case of emergencies, maintain a low profile, and review personal security plans. Citizens were also urged to stay alert in public places, avoid crowds and demonstrations, and familiarize themselves with emergency exits when entering buildings.
