Wike Opposes Uzodimma's Senate Presidency Ambitions

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, publicly declared his opposition to Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, becoming President of the Senate. Wike made this statement during an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout in Abuja.

He indicated that his opposition was politically motivated, not personal, and linked it to the ambitions of some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who wish to influence the selection of National Assembly leaders after the 2027 elections. Wike specifically mentioned Uzodimma's ambition for the Senate presidency, asserting, "I will never support a character like Hope Uzodimma to be Senate President of Nigeria." When contacted for a response, Uzodimma, through his Commissioner for Information, Hon. Declan Emelumba, chose not to engage with Wike's comments.

Wike also expressed concerns about the potential for APC candidates denied tickets to seek alternative platforms, which could disrupt the party's leadership plans in the National Assembly.
