Wike Opposes Uzodinma's Senate Presidency Ambition

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has publicly opposed the ambition of Hope Uzodinma, the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and governor of Imo State, to become the President of the Senate. Wike made this declaration during an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout in Abuja, where he criticized the resistance from some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the proposed Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He alleged that these governors are motivated by a desire to control the emergence of National Assembly leaders. Wike specifically stated, “I will never support a character like Hope Uzodimma to be Senate President of Nigeria.” He emphasized that his opposition is based on political considerations rather than personal differences.

Wike also noted that his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid is distinct from the contests for other political positions, recalling that the G5 governors supported Tinubu while retaining their candidates for other elections under the Peoples Democratic Party.
