Uzodimma Remains Silent After Wike Rejects Senate Bid

Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, has opted not to engage with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, following Wike's public rejection of Uzodimma's ambition for the Senate presidency. Wike made his remarks during an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout, where he discussed the political tensions surrounding the upcoming 2027 general elections and the formation of a Rainbow Coalition.

Wike specifically mentioned Uzodimma while addressing concerns among some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors regarding their influence over the next National Assembly's leadership. Uzodimma's Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Public Orientation, Declan Emelumba, stated that the governor would not respond to Wike's comments for "obvious reasons." Wike firmly stated, “I will never support a character like Hope Uzodimma to be Senate President of Nigeria,” highlighting the growing rift between the two politicians.
