Controversial Red Card for Folarin Balogun in USMNT Match

In a Round of 32 encounter against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Folarin Balogun, a forward for the United States Men's National Team (USMNT), was shown a straight red card in the 63rd minute of the match. The incident occurred after a tackle on Bosnia's defender Tarik Muharemov, which prompted referee Raphael Clau to consult the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system.

Despite Balogun having already scored in the match, the VAR official Juan Ernesto Soto Arvalo alerted Clau to review the tackle for a serious foul play. The replay showed that the impact of Balogun's tackle twisted Muharemov's ankle, leading to the red card decision.

However, former Premier League referee Andi Davi criticized the send-off as unfair, asserting that the tackle was not malicious and was a standard football challenge. Davi emphasized that the VAR should not overanalyze such plays, suggesting that the decision was excessive.
