Veteran Nollywood Actor Kola Oyewo Dies at 80

Dr. Kola Oyewo, a veteran Nollywood actor and scholar, passed away at the age of 80.

His son, Adetoye Oyewo, announced the news on social media, confirming the actor's legacy. Kunle Afod paid tribute to Oyewo on Instagram, acknowledging his immense contributions to Nigerian theater and film.

Kola Oyewo attended Obafemi Awolowo University, where he earned a certificate in Dramatic Art and Yoruba Oral Literature, later obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts in 1995. He furthered his education at the University of Ibadan, receiving a Master of Arts and a Doctorate degree in Drama.

Oyewo began his acting career in 1964 with the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group and became widely known for his portrayal of Odewal in Ola Rotimi's acclaimed play. His illustrious career spanned decades, significantly impacting the development and preservation of Yoruba theater and promoting Nigerian culture.

He celebrated his 80th birthday in March 2026, following a prolonged battle with ill health.
