ADC Adamawa faction suspends Atiku Abubakar, Babachir Lawal

The Adamawa State faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announced the suspension of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal. This decision was made during a press conference on Monday, led by faction chairman Raji Zumo.

Sadiq Ibrahim, the chairman of the party's transition committee, stated that the actions of the suspended individuals were fostering disunity and creating parallel structures that undermine the party's authority, disregarding existing court orders. Zumo emphasized that no individual, regardless of status, is above the law within the ADC.

The suspension aims to restore order and protect the party's dignity while reaffirming its commitment to democratic values. This announcement comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the ADC at the national level, with tensions linked to the party's national leadership structure involving former Senate President David Mark.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had previously withdrawn recognition of the ADC's leadership structure due to these disputes.
