ADC Adamawa Faction Suspends Atiku Abubakar, Babachir Lawal

The Adamawa faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, as part of an effort to address ongoing leadership struggles within the party. The announcement was made by faction chairman Raji Zumo during a press conference on Monday.

Zumo stated that the suspensions were necessary to restore discipline and uphold the rule of law within the ADC, emphasizing that no individual is above the party's constitution. Alongside Abubakar and Lawal, Sadiq Ibrahim, the chairman of the party's transition committee, was also suspended for actions deemed destabilizing to the party's structure.

This move comes at a time when the ADC is facing internal disputes and challenges to its leadership, particularly concerning the role of former Senate President David Mark. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also withdrawn recognition of the faction's leadership, further complicating the situation.
