Aregbesola Claims Eight Years as Governor Without House

Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress and former governor of Osun State, asserted that he is the first governor in Nigeria's history to serve for eight years without owning a personal house. He made this claim during a speech to his supporters, which gained traction online on Thursday.

Aregbesola stated that throughout his tenure from 2010 to 2018, he resided in a friend's house, emphasizing, “I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor in my father’s land.” He challenged anyone who doubts his statement to come forward and show evidence of any house he owns. During his governorship, Aregbesola focused on policies aimed at alleviating poverty, unemployment, and hunger, while also promoting education, healthcare, peace, and community development.

He later served as the Minister of Interior under the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
