Police Officers Arrested for Extorting ICPC Chairman

Four police officers from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command were arrested for allegedly extorting N53,000 from Dr. Musa Aliyu, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The incident occurred during an unauthorized stop-and-search operation in the Banex area of Wuse, Abuja.

According to a press statement from ICPC spokesperson John Odei, the police officers abandoned their assigned duties to set up an unauthorized checkpoint where they extorted the money from Dr. Aliyu. The officers later shared the extorted funds among themselves.

CP Ahm Sanusi confirmed that the officers were in custody and emphasized that the police command would pursue disciplinary actions against them. He also stated that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has prohibited indiscriminate searches and urged citizens to report any such incidents.

The police command aims to ensure that those involved in such criminal activities face severe consequences.
