Adeleke's Council Alleges BVAS Preloading Ahead of Election

The campaign council for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, led by Senator Kamarudeen Olaler Oyewumi, PhD, has expressed alarm regarding alleged attempts to compromise the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. During a press conference in Osogbo, Oyewumi warned that recent electoral incidents could undermine public trust in the democratic process.

He referenced the 2026 FCT area council elections, where issues such as missing ballot papers and alleged pre-thumbprinting of ballots were reported. Oyewumi highlighted that a review of voter registration data revealed discrepancies, with 2,500 out of 3,000 polling units having only 500 registered voters.

He called on INEC to deploy additional BVAS machines and personnel to high-density polling units to prevent voter disenfranchisement. Oyewumi also raised technical concerns about BVAS machines struggling to capture the facial features of elderly voters.

He urged INEC and security agencies to investigate claims of preloading BVAS devices to print extra result sheets, emphasizing the need for adequate safeguards to ensure a transparent election.
