Military Rescues Pupils and Teachers in Oyo State

The Nigerian Military officially handed over rescued pupils and teachers to the Oyo State government on Monday. This event took place at the Oyo State Governor's office, following the victims' release after spending two days in military custody.

Governor Seyi Makinde stated that the victims, who had been abducted by heavily armed gunmen on May 15 in Oriire Local Government Area, would require urgent medical attention. The governor expressed happiness at the reunion of the children and teachers with their families but noted that the victims were frail and needed medical intervention.

The military had been responsible for the victims' care and treatment during their time in custody. Although families were initially delayed in visiting the victims, emotional reunions occurred as children cried upon seeing their mothers.

The attack resulted in the kidnapping of 39 pupils and six teachers, with one teacher killed during the incident.
