Obi and Kwankwaso Join Nigeria Democratic Congress

On a recent Sunday, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and his Kano State counterpart Rabiu Kwankwaso officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), receiving their membership cards in a public event. The video of the event circulated online, showing the registration process, with Kwankwaso first presenting his membership card, followed by Obi.

This formal entry into the party comes amid ongoing political realignments among opposition figures as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. Just hours before the public event, the two politicians participated in a closed-door meeting with NDC leader and former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson at his residence in Guzap, which is believed to be part of efforts to consolidate opposition forces and build a viable coalition ahead of the elections.

Obi and Kwankwaso arrived at the venue at 5:18 PM, drawing a supportive crowd that chanted their names. The event was also marked by the presence of Buba Galadima, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, who disclosed the significance of the meeting.
