Oyo Teachers Protest Abductions, Demand Government Action

On Monday, teachers in Oyo State staged a peaceful protest in Oriir Local Government Area, calling on the government and security agencies to ensure the safe release of their abducted colleagues and students. This protest was prompted by a recent attack on schools in the area, where gunmen reportedly invaded the community, leading to the abduction of students and staff members from Ahoro Esiel High School and Esiel Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

The attack resulted in the death of Joel Adesiyan, an assistant headmaster, and a commercial motorcyclist. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that seven teachers were abducted, and the exact number of missing pupils is still being determined.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlad Olushola Olayinka, stated that the command is aware of the situation and is monitoring developments.
