FG to Replace NYSC Khaki with Adire Fabric for Local Support

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, announced plans to replace the traditional khaki uniform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with Adire fabric. This initiative aims to promote local products and support Nigeria's textile industry, ensuring government spending remains within the local economy.

Olawande disclosed this during a briefing on Thursday, emphasizing that the proposed uniform change is part of a broader economic agenda designed to create opportunities for young Nigerians and revive local value chains. Adire is already produced in various parts of the country, including Ogun and Kwara states.

The government is also reviewing the deployment process for corps members to address safety concerns and ensure a clearer framework for post-orientation camp placements. Olawande stated that these reforms could be implemented without amending existing laws and are expected to be a gradual process requiring engagement with the National Assembly.
