Shettima Visits Benin to Boost Nigeria's Textile Industry

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for a high-level working visit to the Republic of Benin, accompanied by several state governors and senior Nigerian government officials. The delegation will visit the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) near Cotonou to engage with representatives of the Beninese government and private-sector operators involved in the industrial hub's development.

The visit aims to enhance Nigeria's textile industry, particularly focusing on the GDIZ textile park, which integrates cotton spinning, weaving, fabric processing, and garment manufacturing. The GDIZ spans approximately 1,640 hectares and is designed to facilitate the processing and export of agricultural commodities.

The delegation will also explore opportunities for technology transfer, industrial training, and public-private partnerships to improve the quality and competitiveness of Nigerian textiles. This visit aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing industrial revival, economic diversification, and job creation.

The governors accompanying Shettima include Hope Uzodimma, Dauda Lawal, Caleb Mutfwang, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Dikko Umar Radda, and Umar Namadi.
