Shettima Attends 69th ECOWAS Summit in Freetown

On Sunday morning, Vice President Kashim Shettima departed from Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th ordinary session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) summit in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The summit is scheduled to take place on July 19, 2026, and will be hosted by Julius Maada Bio, the President of Sierra Leone.

According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stanlei Nkwocha, Shettima will join political and business leaders from across West Africa and beyond during this significant event. The summit is expected to focus on key policy decisions and strategies aimed at reaffirming collective commitments to peace, democracy, and economic growth in the region.

This meeting is part of ECOWAS's mid-year statutory meetings, which bring together heads of state, government ministers, and senior officials to advance common priorities in security, democratic governance, economic integration, trade, infrastructure, and sustainable development. Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his engagements with West African nations.
