Shettima Urges NECO to Enhance Examination Security

During the silver jubilee celebration of the National Examination Council (NECO) held in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima called on the council to deepen examination security and ensure transparency in the timely release of results. He acknowledged NECO's progress over the past 25 years and described it as a milestone.

Shettima emphasized the need for NECO to expand professional development opportunities and leverage technological strategies. Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, in his keynote address, noted that NECO has reduced examination malpractice by 90 percent and plans to commence computer-based examinations (CBE) in schools later this year.

He reiterated the importance of reliable score releases to restore public confidence in national certifications. Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the registrar of NECO, remarked on the council's evolution and its efforts to enhance security protocols and expand e-services.

The event also included a lecture by Emeritus Professor Piu Augustin Ik Pai Obanya, marking NECO's establishment in April 1999 to meet Nigeria's examination needs.
