WAEC Launches DigiCert for Easy Certificate Access

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) officially launched its DigiCert platform on February 16, 2026, to enhance certificate access across its five member countries: Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. The announcement was made by Demianu G.

Ojijeogu, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC headquarters in Accra, Ghana. The DigiCert service is a mobile web-based application designed to simplify access to certificates for candidates and stakeholders.

It allows users to conveniently request, confirm, and share digital versions of original certificates, enabling candidates to recover lost WAEC examination numbers. The platform guarantees the authenticity of certificates and offers significant cost benefits to users.

WAEC noted that the DigiCert platform received positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions during its successful pilot phase in Nigeria. The council encourages the general public and stakeholders to embrace DigiCert to eliminate administrative bottlenecks commonly associated with manual certificate issuance.

However, WAEC assured that this innovation would not disrupt the conventional print issuance of physical certificates.
