Oshoala: WAFCON Trophy Worth Fighting For

Asisat Oshoala, a forward for the Super Falcons, expressed the importance of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy, stating it is worth fighting for despite Nigeria's dominance with ten titles. Oshoala is among the early arrivals at Nigeria's camp in Casablanca as the Super Falcons intensify their preparations to defend their title in the tournament scheduled from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco.

The team aims to retain their title and secure a qualifying spot for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Oshoala noted that each edition of the tournament reflects the continuous growth of women's football across the continent.

She has previously won the competition in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024. The Super Falcons are drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt, with their campaign beginning against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28.

The tournament will also serve as a qualifying pathway for the World Cup, with four semi-finalists qualifying automatically.
