Wike's Coalition Sparks Tension Among APC Governors

Nyesom Wike serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory while being a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His involvement has led to significant tension within the ruling coalition, particularly concerning the Rainbow Coalition, which Wike claims is intended to support Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.

However, APC governors perceive it as a threat that could siphon votes and loyalty from their control in their respective states. Wike insists the coalition is not meant to replace the APC but to broaden support for the president.

The Progressive Governors’ Forum has expressed reluctance to endorse any arrangement that could weaken its candidates. The conflict has escalated, with Wike labeling some governors as politically lazy, while their allies accuse him of undermining party discipline.

The Presidential Campaign Council has urged Tinubu to intervene, describing the situation as a disagreement among allies with a shared goal but differing methods. The ongoing silence from Tinubu risks solidifying the rift into competing factions ahead of the 2027 elections.
