Kwankwaso and Obi Form Alliance for 2027 Elections

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), stated that he and his party have agreed to work with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, in forming a political alliance for the upcoming 2027 general elections. In an interview on Arise Television, Kwankwaso explained that this partnership is inspired by a historical precedent of political cooperation between Northern and South Eastern leaders, referencing figures such as former Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa and Ahmadu Bello during the First Republic, as well as former President Shehu Shagari during the Second Republic.

He described the South East as a long-standing friend of the North and expressed confidence that Northern leaders will collaborate with their South Eastern counterparts. Kwankwaso emphasized that his decision to align with Obi was not solely based on regional considerations but was a genuine move to advance the country.
