GenCos Reject NLC's Extortion Claims, Demand Support

The Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) has strongly rebutted allegations made by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) that they engage in extortion, insisting that they deserve sympathy rather than accusations of robbery. APGC, represented by Chief Executive Officer Joi Ogaji, highlighted that the power generation companies are financially vulnerable and face immense risks within Nigeria's power sector.

They pointed out that they are entitled to approximately 60 percent of the market receipts from energy bills but are still grappling with severe liquidity constraints. Ogaji described the NLC's claims as baseless and offensive, arguing that such assertions undermine the critical interventions necessary to maintain Nigeria's power supply.

She also criticized the NLC for distorting public perception and undermining confidence in the sector, especially in light of ongoing efforts to stabilize power supply amidst challenges that have persisted since the privatization of the sector.
