APGC Denies NLC's Extortion Claims, Clarifies Sector Issues

The Association of Power Generating Companies (APGC), represented by its Chief Executive Officer Dr. Joi Ogaji, firmly rejected allegations of extortion made by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by President Joe Ajaero. The NLC's claims included accusations of institutionalized extortion and misrepresentation of the challenges in Nigeria's power sector.

The APGC acknowledged the frustrations of Nigerians regarding unstable power supply but criticized the NLC's characterization of the sector's challenges as simplistic and inflammatory. The APGC emphasized that the power generation companies (gencos) are working tirelessly to ensure electricity generation despite facing significant financial challenges, including an outstanding debt of six trillion naira in unpaid invoices.

The APGC called for a forensic examination of their books and highlighted the need for legal and auditor investigations into the sector's financial issues, asserting that the allegations against them are baseless and undermine their professional efforts.
