Reps Deputy Spokesperson: No Need for Tinubu on Budget

Philip Agbes, the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, asserted that President Bola Tinubu should not be required to appear before lawmakers concerning the national budget. His remarks were made during a press briefing in Abuja amid ongoing controversies following a House session where lawmakers expressed the need for the President to address issues related to budget execution, particularly concerning constituency projects.

Agbes emphasized that the accountability for budget implementation lies with the relevant ministries and agencies, not the President. This statement came after a motion by Abia lawmaker Hon.

Mascot Ikwechegh, which sought to invite President Tinubu to address concerns regarding the national budget, sparked significant debate among members. Speaker Abba Tajudeen ruled against the motion, stating it did not contain the original documents required for consideration.

Agbes defended the Speaker's handling of the proceedings, highlighting the need for the House to maintain its integrity and focus on its oversight responsibilities regarding public expenditure.
