Shehu Sani Advocates for Military Training in NYSC Reform

Shehu Sani, the former Kaduna Central Senator, spoke on the necessity of maintaining military training within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) reform approved by President Bola Tinubu. Sani's remarks came in response to the comprehensive overhaul of the NYSC aimed at modernizing the scheme and improving the welfare of corps members.

He insisted that the Director General of NYSC should continue to be a military officer, citing Nigeria's serious security challenges that require military rigor in training. The reform, which includes amendments to the NYSC Act, aims to align the scheme with the country's current developmental priorities.

It will also introduce technology-driven mobilization processes and a comprehensive risk management framework to enhance the safety of corps members. Additionally, a new six-week training program focusing on leadership, entrepreneurship, and digital skills will be implemented.
