Nigerian Defense Minister Urges Local Government Collaboration to Tackle Rising Insecurity

The Minister of Defense in Nigeria, Christopher Musa, highlighted the deteriorating security conditions in the country during a television appearance. He stressed the importance of functional local governments in identifying and combating criminal activities, stating that the scale of insecurity has surpassed the capacity of the federal government alone.

Musa advocated for empowering local governments to hold weekly security meetings and submit regular reports to address security challenges effectively. He also mentioned President Bola Tinubu's efforts to strengthen local governance structures.

Musa emphasized that active engagement by local government chairmen is crucial in tackling insecurity efficiently, suggesting that 20-25% of local government chairmen are better positioned to isolate criminal elements within their jurisdictions.
