Ex-INEC Director Critiques New Electoral Act by Tinubu

Oluwol Osaz Uzzi, a former director of voter education at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), condemned the new Electoral Act signed by President Bola Tinubu. During an appearance on a television morning show, Uzzi expressed concerns that the provisions of the Act, particularly those allowing for manual transmission of election results, could lead Nigeria to repeat past electoral mistakes.

He argued that these provisions might become the norm, which could disadvantage the electoral process. Uzzi emphasized that the country must be cautious of reverting to practices that could undermine the integrity of elections, suggesting that the current administration's approach could open old wounds related to electoral malpractice.
