Education Sector Key to Tinubu's $1 Trillion Economy Goal

Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, reaffirmed the education sector's vital role in realizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's ambition of establishing a $1 trillion Nigerian economy by 2030.

Speaking in Abuja, he highlighted that the Federal Government's reforms aim to create a globally competitive workforce through investments in human capital development and skills acquisition. Alausa noted that the administration is focused on transforming Nigeria's education system to meet manpower needs and produce skilled professionals for both Africa and the global market.

He reported a significant increase in annual enrolment in health-related programs, with nursing school admissions rising from about 20,000 to approximately 50,000 students. The Minister expressed confidence that these reforms would alleviate shortages in the health sector in the coming years.

He also discussed the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), designed as a sustainable financing model for students, emphasizing the administration's commitment to enduring policies. Alausa commended President Tinubu for restoring industrial harmony in tertiary institutions.
