Nigeria Invests N1 Trillion to Enhance Tertiary Education

Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, announced that the Nigerian government has committed more than N1 trillion to improve the tertiary education sector over the past two years.

This investment focuses on expanding access to higher education, upgrading infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of teaching, learning, and research in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Alausa emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is dedicated to removing financial barriers that have historically hindered many qualified Nigerians from pursuing higher education.

He stated that economic hardship should no longer impede academic advancement. The Minister outlined specific allocations, including ₦250 billion for new student hostels, over ₦150 billion for rehabilitating academic facilities, and ₦130 billion for medical schools.

Alausa described the education agenda as a long-term investment in Nigeria's future, aimed at empowering youth through quality education.
